Iranian security forces in a early morning carried out coordinated raids in several villages near Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, located in southeastern Iran.
According to State media, the operations were part of a broader security campaign targeting militant elements in the region. During the course of these raids, a drone strike was launched, resulting in the death of Wali Mohammad Shahbaksh.
Iranian state media identified Shahbaksh as the operational head of Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni militant group that has been active in the border regions and has claimed responsibility for numerous attacks on Iranian security forces in the past.
The group is known for its operations along the Iran-Pakistan border and has been a persistent concern for Iranian authorities. The security operations reportedly aimed to dismantle militant infrastructure and prevent further attacks. Officials have stated that efforts to secure the region will continue as part of ongoing counterterrorism measures.
This is a developing story.
